It's time to chat with our friend and client, who is also the owner of Shortcutz Landscapes, John Orona.
HJJF: Can you give me a brief description of your business?
SL: We are a full-service landscape contractor, serving Kent and Sussex counties in Delaware and some areas of the eastern shore of Maryland. We provide routine lawn maintenance services, irrigation maintenance, installation and repair, landscape design and construction, paver installation, fertilization and pesticide diagnosis and application, as well as a variety of other personal services, as requested by our clientele.
HJJF: Why did you choose to make this your career?
SL: I don't know that I can say I chose this as my career - I would say that the landscape field chose me! I began as a high school kid cutting lawns in the evenings and on the weekends. Over the years, I saw a need for one company that could provide all the outdoor services a home may need and my company grew from that idea.
HJJF: Where do you see your business in the next year? How about in the next 5-10 years?
SL: By next year, I think we'll see enough demand for routine maintenance that I'll need to hire and outfit another maintenance crew to keep up with the workload. My five year plan includes the purchase and development of a new location, where, hopefully, by that ten-year mark will evolve into a garden center, as well as maintaining all the service aspects we offer now.
HJJF: What kind of activities to you participate in to support the community?
SL: We do as much for the community as possible - we make routine donations to Gals That Give events, we have donated/planted trees and held supply/food drives for the SPCA, we are very active in local schools and make charitable contributions to numerous charities that our clients are active with, as a means of supporting those who support us.
