John Terence Jaywork

John Terence ("Terry") Jaywork is admitted to practice before all courts of the State of Delaware. During his 41 years as a lawyer, his areas of practice have included municipal, zoning and public utility law, as well as civil litigation and real estate settlements. He also handled Police Bill of Rights hearings, closed estates, and drafted wills. Concentrating much of his practice on municipal law, during the course of his career he served as attorney for the towns of Bethany Beach, Bowers Beach, Slaughter Beach, Harrington, Farmington, Felton, Greenwood, Smyrna, South Bethany, Woodside, and Wyoming. Today Mr. Jaywork now assists his associate, Barrett Edwards, who has assumed “first chair” in the firm's municipal law practice which currently includes the towns of Bowers Beach, Slaughter Beach, Hartly, Farmington, Kenton, Felton, Greenwood, Magnolia, Odessa, Smyrna, South Bethany, and Wyoming. Mr. Jaywork continues to serve as general counsel to the Delaware Electric Cooperative, a rural electric cooperative serving over 90,000 members in Kent and Sussex Counties, a position he has held since 1982.

Mr. Jaywork is a member of the Delaware State Bar Association and the Kent County Bar Association (past president).

Mr. Jaywork is a member of the Peoples' Church of Dover (United Church of Christ) where he served as "Moderator" (Chairman of the Board of Trustees) between 1994 and 1997, and again in 2009, overseeing a major capital renovation of that church facility. He is a past member of the Board of Directors of the Children's Theatre of Kent County, a charitable corporation established to enable children in the Kent County area to become involved in theatre. Mr. Jaywork is also a past member of the Board of Directors for the Dover Interfaith Mission for Housing, which provides housing, employment services and meals for homeless men within the community and has provided shelter for over 1,000 men since 2008.

When not practicing law or devoting time to church and civic projects, Mr. Jaywork enjoys bicycling, surfing, sailing, hiking the Appalachian Trail, and traveling, both in the United States and abroad.

Current Areas of Practice

Mr. Jaywork's practice at this time is limited to serving as General Counsel to Delaware Electric Cooperative. However, he is available to draft Wills and handle estates for individual clients.
